The center of Dien Bien Phu fortresses group (De Castries Tunnel ) is located in the center of Muong Thanh Basin. Formerly, around the tunnel area, there were barbed wire fences and dense, minefields, four tanks blocking in four directions, and a protective cannon field in the West. The tunnel was 20m long and 8m wide and divided into four compartments. This was the working and resting place of General De Castries and the headquarters of the Dien Bien Phu Fortress. In this tunnel, General De Castries received multiple high-ranking British, French, American officials and journalists to visit Dien Bien Phu. At 5.30 p.m. on May 7^th, 1954, Ta Quoc Luat - Commander of Company 360, Regiment 209, Corps 312, led his soldiers to capture De Castries and the entire French Command to successfully end Dien Bien Phu Campaign.
