Located about 200m from De-Castries Tunel in Thanh Truong Ward, Dien Bien Phu City, the Memorial of French Soldiers in Dien Bien Phu is often called "the Westerners’ graves” by the local. With an area of about 1,000m2, the Memorial was inaugurated on May 7th, 1994 on the occasion of the 40th  anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory. The Memorial was built by the initiative of Mr. Rolf Rodel - a French veteran who fought in Dien Bien Phu, under the support of the National Veterans Association and the French Veterans Association (France). There are multiple steles with French soldier symbols placed at the memorial. This is a demonstration of the humanity of the Vietnamese people towards those who were on the other side of the front line./.
