Dien Bien has the main soil groups, which are alluvial soil, black soil, red yellow humus on mountains. These soils are very suitable for the development of food crops, crops and short-term industrial trees, for planting and regenerating forests.
Natural area was 9,539.93 km2. Of which: Agricultural land was 882,880.34 hectares, accounting for 92.55% (agricultural production land was 465,136.20 hectares, accounting for 48.76%; forestry land was 414,978.87 hectares, accounting for 43.5%; aquaculture land was 2,610.67 hectares, accounting for 0.27%; other agricultural land was 154.6 hectares, accounting for 0.02%); Residential land was 5,646.1 hectares, accounting for 0.59%;
