On the morning of June 19, at Tong Khao Martyrs Cemetery, Thanh Nua Commune, Dien Bien District. Dien Bien Province solemnly held a memorial service and burial for 12 remains of soldiers who died for international duty in Laos. The ceremony was attended by Major General Nguyen Hong Thai, Deputy Political Commissar, Head of the 515 Steering Committee of Military Region 2; representatives of the National 515 Steering Committee; the Consulate General of Vietnam in Luang Prabang, and delegates from the Special Task Force of six northern Lao provinces. On behalf of Dien Bien Province, Mr. Vu A Bang - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee attended.

The memorial service and burial for the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who died in Laos were held at Tong Khao Martyrs Cemetery.

According to Military Region 2’s report, through the review of information, search, excavation, and retrieval of remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Laos, the Martyrs Remains Retrieval Team, Political Department of Military Region 2, responsible for northern Laos based in Udomxay Province, has made great efforts, focusing all resources on reviewing, searching, excavating, and retrieving 12 sets of remains of martyrs in Muong Ngoi village, Muong Ngoi district, Luang Prabang province, the Lao People's Democratic Republic.

It is known that from 2014 to 2023, the province has organized 12 receptions, memorial services, and burials for 280 remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who died in Laos.

The remains of the martyrs are Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who died while performing noble international duties in Laos, all of which have not yet been identified.

Major General Nguyen Hong Thai, Deputy Political Commissar, Head of the 515 Steering Committee of Military Region 2, and Mr. Vu A Bang - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, offered incense in memory of the heroic martyrs.

At the ceremony, Mr. Vu A Bang - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee emphasized that during the years of fighting in Laos, Vietnamese volunteer soldiers united with the Lao revolutionary army and people, demonstrating a tradition of resilience and indomitability, overcoming all hardships and sacrifices for the cause of national liberation, contributing to the strengthening of the special friendship between Vietnam and Laos.

In a solemn and respectful atmosphere, the delegates, armed forces soldiers, and a large number of people laid wreaths and offered incense in memory of the Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who sacrificed their lives for noble international duties in Laos.

On behalf of the Party Committee, authorities, and people of Dien Bien Province, Mr. Vu A Bang expressed gratitude to the Party Committee, authorities, and people of the northern Lao provinces; the Martyrs Graves Retrieval Team - Political Department of Military Region 2 for their efforts in overcoming difficulties, coordinating in the search and bringing the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers back to their homeland. Before the spirits of the heroic martyrs, the Party Committee, authorities, and people of Dien Bien Province vow to uphold the flag of national independence and socialism, determined to build and firmly protect the socialist Republic of Vietnam. Promoting the spirit of international solidarity, constantly strengthening and nurturing the special friendship between Vietnam and Laos, forever green and sustainable.
