The Integrated Water Resources Management Adapted to Climate Change project in Tuan Giao District aims to provide irrigation water and establish concentrated macadamia and coffee plantations (covering 21,000 hectares) in Tuan Giao District; ensuring drinking water supply for 35,000 people. The project's investment scale includes a 5 million cubic meter reservoir and a 120km long pipeline system. Implementing the project will create favorable conditions for planting and caring for macadamia and coffee specifically, creating a breakthrough in the economic and social development of Tuan Giao District.

During the meeting, the AFD delegation expressed gratitude for the warm reception by the provincial People's Committee leadership; they also focused on discussing several project-related issues such as the identification of the dam as a large dam; environmental issues when building the dam; maximizing the economic value for local people using water from the project; technical support components and the plan to implement project components in the near future... Additionally, AFD expressed the desire to soon receive commitments on certain project contents and official documents from the province; they also hope the project will bring changes and economic and social development to the province.

Speaking at the meeting, a representative of Tuan Giao District's leadership responded to several issues discussed with the AFD delegation, such as the district's commitment to comply with safety requirements when building the dam, cooperation with AFD's consulting unit during project implementation; regarding local people's income in the early years of macadamia planting, Tuan Giao District will organize for people to intercrop other crops such as corn and upland rice; they will also add water from the project to the centralized reservoirs of previously invested domestic waterworks to supply water to the people; at the same time, they expressed the desire to jointly implement the project with AFD in the near future.

Mr. Lo Van Tien, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, presented local gifts to the working delegation.

On behalf of the provincial leadership, Mr. Lo Van Tien, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, thanked the AFD delegation for visiting and working in Dien Bien Province; he also discussed with the delegation the province's agricultural development direction, focusing on developing industrial crops and fruit trees to replace traditional crops, in Dien Bien Province in general and Tuan Giao District in particular. The Dien Bien Provincial People's Committee agreed with the contents and requirements of the delegation for the project; Dien Bien Province will soon send written commitments to AFD. Regarding the delegation's proposals, the province will direct relevant agencies to closely coordinate with AFD to implement the project, hoping it will be implemented soon./.
