PM meets veteran soldiers, young volunteers, frontline workers serving Dien Bien Phu Campaign

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the victory over Dien Bien Phu (May 7, 1954-May 7, 2024), on the morning of April 17th, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in collaboration with Dien Bien province organized a program to meet Dien Bien soldiers, young volunteers, and frontline works directly participating in the Dien Bien Phu campaign. Attending the meeting program on the central side were Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh; Mr. Do Van Chien - Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; comrades of the Party Central Committee, former members of the Party Central Committee; Representatives of central departments, ministries, branches and unions.

On the side of Dien Bien province, there were comrades: Tran Quoc Cuong - Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Mua A Son - Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Le Thanh Do - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; former comrades who led Dien Bien province through the ages.

The Dien Bien soldiers, young volunteers, and frontline workers attended the meeting.

In particular, the program was attended by 139 historical witnesses who were the Dien Bien soldiers, young volunteers, and frontline workers who directly participated in the Dien Bien Phu Campaign of the Northwest provinces, Hanoi Capital and the Ho Chi Minh city.

Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Do Van Chien presented his speech at the meeting. 

Presenting his speech at the meeting, Mr. Do Van Chien - Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front affirmed: The historic victory of Dien Bien Phu is the victory of the righteousness of a heroic Vietnamese people. That victory was crystallized by the ardent patriotic tradition, the great strength of national unity, "We would rather sacrifice everything than lose our country and return to slavery”. The victorious Dien Bien Phu campaign, an eternal epic, is a brilliant milestone in the history of our nation's struggle to build and defend the country.

On this occasion, Mr. Do Van Chien requested all levels, branches, agencies, units and the whole society continue to pay attention and take care of improving the material and spiritual life of meritorious people: "Ensure that 100% of meritorious people and families of people who have contributed to the revolution are comprehensively cared for both materially and spiritually, have a decent average standard of living or higher, compared to the standard of living of the community in which they reside." He wishes and respectfully requests meritorious people and their families nationwide to continue promoting the glorious traditions of the family, encouraging their children and grandchildren to well abide by the Party's guidelines and lines, the State's legal policies; strive to become good cadres, exemplary citizens, make the highest efforts, excellently complete all assigned tasks, contribute efforts to build and firmly defend the Fatherland of Vietnam.

In his welcome speech, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Tran Quoc Cuong emphasized that 70 years have passed, but the stature of the times and great historical significance of the Dien Bien Phu Victory remain forever in the memory and heroic history of the nation. The Fatherland of Vietnam, the people of Vietnam, including the ethnic groups of Dien Bien province, Northwest, forever remember the merits of the Party, Uncle Ho, the heroes of martyrs, soldiers of Dien Bien Phu, volunteer youths, frontline workers who have fought, died and continue to make great contributions to the construction of Dien Bien province more and more develop.

The Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in Dien Bien province continue to strive to build Dien Bien province more and more prosperous and beautiful, contributing to the cause of innovation, building and protecting the Socialist Fatherland of Vietnam, worthy of the trust of the Party and State and the noble sacrifices and contributions of heroic martyrs, soldiers of Dien Bien Phu, young volunteers, and frontline works directly participating in the Dien Bien Phu Campaign.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent to comrades revolutionary veterans, heroic Mother Vietnam, Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, veterans, and young volunteers. and frontline workers sincere feelings, deep gratitude, close and affectionate greetings and best wishes. At the same time, emphasize the Dien Bien Phu Victory - one of the brilliant peaks, glorious feats and "golden milestones" in the history of our nation's struggle against foreign invaders. The Government leader underlined that with the tradition of “when drinking water, remember the source,” the Party and State have paid special attention to supporting wounded and sick war veterans and relatives of war martyrs with respect, deep gratitude and great responsibility, considering it as an important and regular task.

In the future, to further improve the care for veterans, war invalids, families of martyrs, and those who have contributed to the revolution, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh proposes that all levels, sectors, and localities continue to effectively implement the Party's guidelines, State policies, and laws; Enhance propaganda work to raise people's awareness of the great sacrifices and contributions of revolution contributors to promote patriotism and national unity. Implement cohesively and effectively preferential policies for contributors, constantly improve the material and spiritual lives of revolution contributors and their families. Pay more attention to contributors in difficult circumstances, living alone, without support, families of contributors in remote areas, border areas, islands, ethnic minority areas, and mountainous regions. Additionally, accelerate the research and issuance of specific support mechanisms and policies, create favourable conditions, and enhance the role of contributors, veterans, war invalids, and families of revolution contributors, especially in production, household economy, and collective economy. Promote the application of science and technology in managing data, information, images, and relics related to heroes, martyrs, and war invalids; determine DNA for cases of unidentified martyrs, which is a highly meaningful task that the Government is focusing on leading, directing, and investing in this field.

Mr. Bui Kim Dieu is currently residing in Dien Bien Phu city, representing Dien Bien soldiers, young volunteers, and frontline workers who directly participated in the Dien Bien Phu campaign, reviewed his memories of the heroic years.

Inheriting and promoting the spirit and victory of Dien Bien Phu, the Prime Minister requested the Party Committee, government, army and people of Dien Bien province to unite, join forces, and unanimously build and develop Dien Bien province quickly and sustainably. Maintaining the Northwest border of the Fatherland, constantly improving the material and spiritual life of people of all ethnic groups. This is also the wish and message of the Party and State leaders.

The organization of the meeting program is a tribute and gratitude to those who have devoted their youth to the country. This is a meaningful program in a series of activities commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory.

Previously, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his delegation offered flowers and incense at the A1 National Martyrs Cemetery.

The delegates observed a minute of silence to commemorate the great contributions of the fallen heroes.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh burned incense on each grave of fallen heroes and martyrs./.
