Tuan Giao – a gateway of economic development area to Dien Bien Province

Tuan Giao has an area of 1,136.29 km2, a population of 80,810 people (2017), has 19 administrative divisions including 18 commues and 1 town. The district is bordered by Quynh Nhai District and Thuan Chau District of Son La Province in the east, bordered by Muong Cha District in the west, bordered by Muong Ang District in the south, bordered by Tua Chua District in the north.

Pha Din is a 32 km long mountain pass connecting Son La and Dien Bien Phu via Route 6. The highest point of the pass is more than 1,600 meters above sea level. The pass is one of the most sublime mountain passes in North Vietnam.

Tuan Giao District is located in the east of Dien Bien Province, is the gateway to the province, with many advantages in the economic development of agriculture and industrial crops in the period of 2016 – 2020. So far, the district has maintained many types of industrial crops such as: 1,320 hectares of seringa, 342 hectares of coffee, 206.1 hectares of rosaceae, 1,400 hectares of macadamia newly planted, 58.2 hectares of cardamom, 1,320 hectares of seringa.

Currently, the district has attracted a number of enterprises to invest in the agricultural and rural development such as: Project of high-tech macadamia planting of Macadamia Joint Stock Company with a total investment of 485 billion dong; Central Vegetables and Fruits Joint Stock Company develops a chain of links and consumption of fruit tree products (Taiwan mango, Dien pomelo, green skin pomelo, pear …) with a total area of 374.6 hectares …

In addition to the potential for agriculture and industry, Tuan Giao District has also many natural resources such as: Model of salmon farming among the primeval forests in Tuan Giao town, sturgeon farming in the highland Tenh Phong Commune. The district is the site with many tourist attractions attracting visitors in everywhere such as Pha Din Pass. When reaching the top of Pha Din Pass, the visitors will fully feel the majestic beauty of the Northwestern mountains and forests. with the accumulating and undulating range of mountains which spread throughout the space. When zooming down into the valley with a few stilt houses, the scene appears like a fanciful picture. Especially, when coming heare, the visitors can see many colorful flowers grown in the “Pha Din Pass” tourist area; Pu Nhung revolutionary base (Pu Nhung Commune); Tham Pua cave; Mun Chung cave (Mun Chung cave); Ha Cho cave (Pu Nhung Commune); archaeological relic (national level), Tham Khuong cave of Chieng Dong Commune; hot mineral water spot of Sang Village (Quai Cang Commune); waterfall of Muong Thin Commune; primeval forests and cold water of Tenh Phong Commune. In the territory of district, there are many villages and hamlets of ethnic minorities (Mong, Thai, Kho Mu, Khang …), unique customs, deeply imbued with ethnic cultural identity …

Besides, the infrastructure of locality has been constantly improving. Many projects of Tuan Giao Trade Center, urban traffic projects, electricity, water, irrigation … have been gradually completed and prepared to become Tuan Giao City in the near future.

In the coming period, Tuan Giao District will continue to exploit favorable conditions such as: a large workforce, convenient transportation hub, adjacent to the developed agricultural economic region (Son La Province) to implement sustainable agricultural development goals. In particular, maintain the aquaculture area of 300 hectares, continue to invest in, renovate and repair irrigational works, solidify canals, take advantage of resources to invest in the construction of the Project of Ban Phu Reservoir in Quai Cang Commune to provide water for agricultural development and local people living in the communes: Quai Cang, Quai Nua, Pu Nhung and the town …
