Muong Cha district has an area of 1,199.42 km², a population of 47,183 people, has 12 administrative divisions including 11 commues and 1 town. The district is bordered by Muong Lay town and Sin Ho, Nam Nhun districts (Lai Chau province) in the north, bordered by Tua Chua district and Tuan Giao district in the east; bordered by Muong Ang district in the southeast ; bordered by Dien Bien Phu City and Dien Bien district in the south; bordered by Nam Po district and Laos in the west.

It is about 54 km from Dien Bien Phu city center to Muong Cha town. Muong Cha is located on Highway 12, National Highway 6 and Provincial Highway 131. The district has a border with a length of 24.4 km with Muong May district, Phong Sa Ly province, Laos.

Muong Cha is mainly high mountains with a slope of 160-450 m, average altitude from 350 to 1,500 meters above sea level, gradually inclined northwest-southeast. The terrain is complicatedly divided due to many high mountains and deep ravines, many basins, and a great difference in terrain. The district has a tropical monsoon climate; has a rich and diversified system of rivers, streams, ponds and lakes. The flows of major rivers and streams are large, the water source is clean and not polluted, and the amount of groundwater is also abundant. The flow regime of the stream during the year depends on the annual rainfall, so it is also divided into two distinct seasons. Rainy season and dry season. Convenient for the construction of hydroelectric and irrigation works; to develop food crops, short-term industrial crops, trees with high economic efficiency such as soybeans, peanuts, fruit trees, macadamia ... At the present, Muong Cha district has 4 hydropower plants in operation with capacity of 134MW and district is implementing the construction of 3 plants, expected to generate electricity in 2021.

Pineapples in Muong Cha district  have good quality, delicious fruit, and bring clear economic benefits to the people. Therefore, the area of ​​pineapple trees in the district is constantly expanded. Up to now, the district has nearly 193 hectares are planted Pineapple, mainly in 2 communes Na Sang and Sa Long. Muong Cha's pineapple varieties are mainly Queen varieties which are sweet, fragrant fruit and can withstand the shade, so they can be alternately planted under the canopy of rubber trees to increase income season, harvested all year round. Since 2017, Dien Bien province has been implementing a pineapple growing model in Muong Cha following a safe pineapple supply chain. Pineapple products from Muong Cha were put on display for sale at Tam Do Supermarket (Dien Bien Phu city); a booth displaying safe vegetable - root - fruit products of Safe Green Food Company (Dien Bien Phu City) and a number of safe products consuming units in Hanoi.

 Thanks to careful investigation of the climatic features, soil, as well as the weather of sub-regions, so far, all the rubber areas are planted in Muong Cha which are in good growth and developmenttons.

In addition, Muong Cha district also invested and developed the rubber trees. Rubber trees in Muong Cha are planted at an altitude of 550 - 650m above sea level. Thanks to careful investigation of the climatic features, soil, as well as the weather of sub-regions, so far, all the rubber areas are planted in Muong Cha which are in good growth and development. Currently, the whole district is taking care and protection of 1,267 hectares of rubber trees, tapping 654 hectares of latex, with an output of 589 tons.

Currently, the district is paying attention and creating favorable conditions for businesses and production establishments to develop, expand business areas, positively contribute to the growth, economic restructuring and increase the district budget revenue./.
