Laos to hold national mourning in commemoration of Viet Nam's Party leader

Laos will hold national mourning in commemoration of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong from July 25-26, Minister-Chairman of the Lao Prime Minister's Office Bouakhong Nammavong announced Monday.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong made great contributions to nurturing the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States and people of Viet Nam and Laos, according to an announcement by the Government of Laos.

As comrade Nguyen Phu Trong has passed away, Laos has lost the closest and intimate friend. Therefore, the Party and Government of Laos agreed to hold national mourning in Laos and at Laos' overseas diplomatic missions on July 25-26. During the two-day national mourning, the national flags will be flown at half-mast, and recreational and entertainment activities will be suspended.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel on Friday announced a state mourning in commemoration of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong.

During the state mourning, flags will be hoisted half-mast at all the public buildings and military offices.

The Cuban leader expressed deep grief at the passing away of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, who he called a beloved comrade and sincere friend of Cuba./.
