World leaders offer condolences on passing of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong

Leaders of many countries and the UN Secretary-General have extended condolences to the leaders and people of Viet Nam after the decease of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

On behalf of the Government and people of Thailand, Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin sent his deep condolences to the Government, people of Viet Nam and the family of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong for this great loss.

The Thai Prime Minister expressed his admiration for the crucial and exemplary contributions of the Party General Secretary in the work of building and developing the country, as well as in strengthening relations between Viet Nam and Thailand, especially the Joint Statement on upgrading the two countries' relationship into a strategic partnership on the occasion of the Vietnamese leader's historic visit to Thailand in 2013.

On behalf of the Government and people of India, the Indian leaders sent their sincere condolences for Viet Nam's great loss, expressing respect for the life and career of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

The Indian leaders affirmed that they will stand side by side with the leaders and people of Viet Nam and the family of the Vietnamese Party chief in this painful moment.

General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea Kim Jong Un affirmed that Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong has devoted his entire life to the struggle for the development of the Party and State of Viet Nam and the happiness of the Vietnamese people.

The Vietnamese leader made efforts to strengthen and develop friendly and cooperative relations between Democratic People's Republic of Korea and Viet Nam, in accordance with the spirit of the agreement reached at the summit talks between the two leaders in Ha Noi in March 2019.

In his letter, Kim Jong Un emphasized that the merits of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong will remain forever in the revolutionary history of the Vietnamese people and the friendly relations between the two countries.

In his message, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol expressed his infinite sadness over the passing of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the great leader of Viet Nam.

On behalf of the Government and people of South Korea, he sincerely expressed his condolences to the family and people of Viet Nam for the loss of a respected leader.

The achievements and wishes of the Party leader for the brilliant development of Viet Nam and to deepen the friendly cooperation relations between Viet Nam and South Korea will forever remain in the minds of the people of both nations, he wrote.

U.S. President Joe Biden sent his deep condolences to the Vietnamese people and the family of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong for this great loss.

"General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was a champion of the deep ties between the American and Vietnamese people whose leadership helped nurture the friendship and partnership our countries enjoy today. His 2015 historic visit to the White House was a milestone in our bilateral relationship. Thanks to his vision, during my 2023 state visit to Ha Noi, Viet Nam and the U.S. became "comprehensive strategic partners," the highest level of partnership in the Vietnamese system. The people of Viet Nam and the U.S.–and people across the Indo-Pacific region–enjoy greater security and opportunity today because of the friendship between our two countries. That is thanks to him", he shared.

"The U.S. and I personally–will remember and appreciate his commitment to reconciliation and to building a future oriented toward peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and around the world. We honor his legacy and mourn his passing alongside the people of Viet Nam", Biden wrote.

In the letter, Prime Minister Kishida noted that he was surprised and saddened to hear the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

On behalf of the Government and people of Japan, he expressed his deepest condolences to the Government and people of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam and to the bereaved family.

Prime Minister Kishida also expressed his sincere respect for the Party leader's significant contributions to Japan-Viet Nam relations, noting that the Party General Secretary had demonstrated great leadership in building close cooperation between Japan and Viet Nam as comprehensive strategic partners in a wide range of fields.

Australian leaders sent their deep condolences to the National Assembly, Government, people of Viet Nam and the family of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong for this great loss.

They highly appreciate the affection and sincerity that the Party chief devoted to the relationship between Viet Nam and Australia, especially in upgrading the relationship between the two countries to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The Australian leader underlined that Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong's great contributions to building and developing a peaceful and prosperous Viet Nam will always be remembered by international community.

They affirmed that they will continue to attach importance to nourishing "strategic trust" in Viet Nam-Australia relations as desired by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres and President of the United Nations General Assembly Dennis Francis sent their deep condolences to the State, people of Viet Nam and the family of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

Antonio Guterres shared the pain and great loss of the Vietnamese people at the passing of the Party chief.

The Secretary-General emphasized that in his position as the Party General Secretary since 2011, Nguyen Phu Trong held a key role in Viet Nam's contemporary history.

Under the leadership of the Party leader, Viet Nam continues its strong development path to become one of the world's leading fast-growing economies and an important partner of the UN.

Dennis Francis highly praised the Party General Secretary as a dedicated leader who devoted himself to his country for more than a decade./.
