Grand ceremony, parade celebrating 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory

On the morning of May 7, at Dien Bien Province Stadium, The Party Central Committee, the National Assembly, the State President, the Government, the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Central Committee held a grand ceremony commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory (May 7, 1954 - 2024).

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh delivered the address marking 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory.

The event was attended by Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính, Acting State President Vo Thi Anh Xuan, Permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat and chairwoman of its Organisation Commission Truong Thi Mai, National Assembly Vice Chairman Tran thanh Man and President of the Việt Nam Fatherland Front Central Committee Do Van Chien, along with former government officials.

International guests included Lao Deputy PM and Minister of National Defence Chansamone Chanyalath, Cambodian Deputy PM Neth Savoeun, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China Zhang Qingwei, French Minister of the Armed Forces Sebastien Lecornu, delegates of foreign representative bodies in Việt Nam, defence attachés of other countries and representatives of overseas Vietnamese.

From Dien Bien Province, the attendees included: Mr. Tran Quoc Cuong, member of the Party Central Committee and the Provincial Party Secretary; Mr. Mua A Son, the Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Le Thanh Do, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Mr. Lo Van Phuong, a Member of the Provincial Party Committee's Executive Board and Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Mr. Lo Van Mung, a Member of the Executive Board, Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Ombudsman Commission, and Chairman of the Provincial Viet Nam Fatherland Front Committee.

On this occasion, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong sent his regards and flowers to the event.

After the flag-raising ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh delivered a speech commemorating the 70th anniversary of the victory at Dien Bien Phu. The Prime Minister emphasized the hardships endured during "fifty-six days and nights of digging into mountains, sleeping in bunkers, enduring relentless rain, and surviving on squeezed rice." With "blood mixed with mud, unwavering courage, and unyielding determination," the indomitable spirit and heroic efforts of our military and people, the Dien Bien Phu Campaign achieved a resounding victory, delivering decisive blows and defeating the final attempts of the French colonialists in the war of invasion of Vietnam.

This is the pinnacle of victory of the "All-people, comprehensive, long-term, relying on one's own strength" resistance war, a victory of the spirit of "Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom", and the conclusion of the war. the essence of Vietnam's strength in the Ho Chi Minh era; forced the French colonialists to sign the Geneva Agreement (July 21, 1954) on the cessation of hostilities in Vietnam; creating the basis and premise for liberating and building the North's transition to socialism and a solid foundation for the struggle to liberate the South and unify the country.

The Dien Bien Phu victory was an important event, not only meaningful to the Vietnamese Revolution, but also became an immortal epic that inspired movements to fight for national liberation, marking the collapse of old colonialism worldwide. As President Ho Chi Minh affirmed: “It is the great triumph of our people, as well as the collective victory of all oppressed nations globally. The victory at Dien Bien Phu further illuminates the truth of Marxist-Leninist ideology in today's era: The imperialist wars are destined to fail, while the liberation revolutions of various nations are bound to succeed."

The Prime Minister emphasized that 70 years have passed, but the lessons learned in the Dien Bien Phu Victory still retain their value for today and future generations. Promoting the patriotic spirit and the will to fight and win of the entire Party, people and army. Promoting the spirit of independence, self-reliance, self-reliance, self-reliance, initiative, flexibility, creativity, determining the correct path of revolutionary war and military art, the art of people's war of Vietnam. Build and strengthen the strength of the great national unity bloc, whose core is the alliance of workers - farmers - intellectuals under the leadership of the glorious Communist Party of Vietnam. On this occasion, on behalf of Party and State leaders, PM Pham Minh Chinh presented the first-class Independence Order to the Party organisation, administration, and people of Điện Biên province in recognition of their remarkable attainments and contributions to the Party and the nation’s revolutionary cause.

Following the ceremony, a military parade and a procession of civil forces gathering over 12,000 people took place to celebrate the anniversary. The program began with a 21-gun salute to the accompaniment of Vietnam’s national anthem, followed by a performance of helicopters carrying the flag of the Communist Party of Viet Nam and Viet Nam National flag flying over the stadium.

The important highlight of the entire celebration is the military parade, which aims to demonstrate the forces and affirm the meaning, stature, and great historical value of the Dien Bien Phu Victory. After marching past the ceremony platform, the blocks moved through Hoang Van Thai street to the A1 intersection divided into 3 directions: Direction 1: includes 8 blocks of armed forces and blocks of Dien Bien province following Vo Nguyen Giap street back. Road 7/5; Direction 2: includes 7 blocks of military forces passing through A1 bridge, Nguyen Huu Tho street and gathering in Thanh Binh ward and direction 3 includes 8 blocks of police forces passing through Nam Thanh ward and gathering in Pom La urban area.
