Dien Bien - Japan cooperation relationship

In recent times, the cooperative relationship between Dien Bien province and Japanese partners has achieved positive results; political and diplomatic relations; Cooperation in the fields of agriculture, health, education... is increasingly strengthened, consolidated, in-depth, substantive and effective. Cultural activities and people-to-people exchanges have become an important foundation for the increasingly close and trusting relationship between the two countries. In particular, Dien Bien province has received a lot of effective support in terms of capital, science and technology, advice from experts in the fields of agriculture, rural development, health... Thereby , making a practical contribution to the socio-economic development of the province, improving capacity and professional experience for local agencies and units.

Mr. Ha Quang Trung, Secretary of Dien Bien Phu City Party Committee, introduced the potential and strengths of Dien Bien province at the 2nd global economic and overseas Vietnamese forum and connected local cooperation between Vietnamese and Japanese businesses in early October 2023.

From 1998 to present, Dien Bien province has invested in 16 projects, 1 pilot project on rural infrastructure development (10 traffic projects, 1 power distribution project; 4 projects water supply and 2 irrigation projects) with a total investment of 566,572 billion VND (of which: 357,966 billion VND JICA capital, 208,606 billion VND counterpart capital from the Central budget). The works and projects are implemented to ensure progress, and when put into use, they promote positive effects in hunger eradication and poverty reduction in difficult areas in the province.

Currently, Dien Bien province is implementing prescribed procedures to coordinate with JICA to implement the project "Rural development adaptive to natural disasters" with a total expected capital of 1,480 billion VND, of which loan capital is JICA is 1,139.28 billion VND, counterpart capital is 340.72 billion VND. In addition, World Vision Organization in Japan and ISUZU company also support the province in implementing projects on education and rural economic development; Health projects such as: Mother and child health monitoring book, improving knowledge and skills of health workers, village health workers, and volunteers on maternal and child health care children through training and use of tracking books; improve awareness and behavior of pregnant women, mothers and caregivers of young children regarding pre-, intra- and post-partum care; Strengthen communication and education on maternal and child health care; Project to strengthen medical examination and treatment services in the Northwest provinces; Project to strengthen the clinical training system for nurses...

The delegation of leaders of Dien Bien province attended the forum connecting local and business cooperation between Vietnam - Kyushu and Japan in early October.

As a province with land potential and favorable conditions to form a number of specialized farming areas, producing quality agricultural products, it has been gradually building its brand and seeking to develop into markets outside the province. such as: Macadamia, Coffee, Tuyet Shan Tea, Cordyceps, Muong Thanh rice... In particular, the province has a large area of unused land suitable for developing large-scale livestock farming. Besides, the diverse terrain, blessed by nature with many beautiful landscapes, both majestic and poetic... has created Dien Bien a rich source of natural tourism potential. In particular, many areas have natural conditions similar to some areas of Japan, have the potential to grow cherry blossom trees, and have natural water sources to form a self-flowing population with temperatures ranging from moderately hot to very hot (from 40 – 80^o‑C), the water source is located in an area with a natural landscape that is still very pristine and needs investment to develop into an eco-tourism and medical destination combined with visiting ethnic villages and entertainment. From the above advantages, it is suitable for investors from Japan to come to Dien Bien.
