Placed at Dien Bien Phu Historical Victory Museum, the artwork, featuring 4,500 characters, is a panorama of the Dien Bien Phu battlefield at different times from late 1953 to May 7, 1954. the Panorama painting of "historic Dien Bien Phu victory" is still rushing to complete to serve visitors. This is considered a breakthrough work, a miracle of Vietnamese art.

A massive painting of 132m wide and 9m high that took three years to be completed – was approved by an art council on May 4.

The painting was done with about 30 painters drawing continuously. Most of the participating painters are young graduates from the Vietnam University of Fine Art.

Mr. Nguyen Van Mac, director of the cultural heritage preservation company and a manager of the art project, said it aims to convey an image of a people’s war.
The Dien Bien Phu Campaign lasted from March to May 1954 under the command of General Vo Nguyen Giap. Its victory on May 7, 1954 led to the signing of the 1954 Geneva Accords in which France agreed to withdraw its forces from its colonies in Indochina.

 The owner of the work is Mr. Nguyen Van Mac and his accoiates spent more than 1,200 days, of which more than 500 days of sketching and more than 750 days of official drawing in Dien Bien.

The painting is devided into four layouts: The section of the whole people going out to battle; the section of grandiore prelude; the section of historical confrontation and the section of victory.

The painting is 132 m long, 20.5 m high, 42 m in diameter, 6 m in embossed part, and the total painting area of over 3,200 m2The painting is drawn with oil painting on a canvas, the artists have truthfully portrayed 4,500 characters combied with embossed models and exhibits.

This is a painting reconstituting 56 days and nights of hardship of Vietnamese army and people in the 1954 Dien Bien Phu campaign.
