Dien Bien Phu city is located nearly 500 km northwest of Hanoi city. The East borders on Muong Ang district; The Southeast borders on Dien Bien Dong district; To the west and the south, it borders on Dien Bien district; The North borders on Muong Cha district.

Besides, continuing to bring into full play the relic populations of Dien Bien Phu battlefield, the city also focuses on developing urban infrastructure such as: planning of existing central zone; cultural commercial center; the political administrative center of the province; multi-function area along the road 60m; detailed plan on the adjustment of Dien Bien Phu Airport in the period of 2020, with a vision to 2030; the existing central area from Hill E to Thanh Binh bridge (in progress) and is continuing to implement a detailed plan for the area along the Vo Nguyen Giap road to Nam Rom river in Nam Thanh ward; Northwest subdivision associated with the adjustment of the planning of Dien Bien Phu Airport ...
