Ban Phu Citadel - An interesting historical relic in Dien Bien province

Ban Phu Citadel is an interesting attraction and must-see destination for visitors in Vietnam. It’s located in Noong Het village, Dien Bien district, about 9 km from the West of Dien Bien Phu city and was built in the 15th century. Ban Phu Citadel is a historical landmark for the extermination of aggressors led by General Hoang Cong Chat. This is a place of cultural, artistic and spiritual life of Dien Bien people, attracting visitors to visit.

Introduce the historical relic of Ban Phu Citadel

After the commander of the peasant rebellion against Le-Trinh dynasty in the land of Thai Binh today, General Hoang Cong Chat brought troops into the Northwest, then collaborated with two local generals Ngai, General Khanh led the people to defeat the invasion of Phe enemy, completely liberated Muong Thanh. He built Ban Phu Citadel from 1758 to 1762 and operated throughout the 10 continents of An Tay.

Later, to commemorate the merit of the leader Hoang Cong Chat, people have set up his temple in Ban Phu. In 1981 and 1994, Ban Phu relic and Hoang Cong Chat Temple in Dien Bien were ranked and recognized as national historical-cultural monuments.

Ban Phu Citadel architecture

Ban Phu ancient citadel is over 80 ha, leaning back on Nam Rom River, 15m wide, 15m high. The wall made of earth, bamboo, 4-5m wide. Legend said that elephant horses can go on the wall.

Today, although there are not enough ancient architecture, the ruins of Ban Phu citadel have been embellished with a strong wall so that visitors can visit.

Standing on the citadel, visitors can see the landscape of the region with the roof floor hidden behind the bamboo green and blue sky.

The inner area of the citadel has been built more cultural stilts with the capacity of hundreds of people. The two sides of the Ban Phu Citadel are lotus ponds surrounding the stone, along with a wide array of bricks and yards for cultural activities and festivals.

The center of Ban Phu village has a very old tree, often called a great unity tree, because of the same root but the cohesion of 3 trees, symbolizing the solidarity between 3 regions.
